Why Can’t I Feel the Peace of Being Constantly? | Rupert Spira

When experiencing difficult thoughts and feelings, how can we be certain that the inherent peace of being is still present?
Rupert says: ‘At any moment, you can take one step back to your being. If being were truly a state of mind that comes and goes, you would need to find an experience in which your being is absent – but you cannot. The very fact that you say “I am lonely” contains the “I am” at its heart.
‘When you investigate the direct experience that enables you to say “I am,” it’s always peaceful there. Being is the medium within which all experience appears – like the screen that allows the movie but is never stained by it. Your inherently peaceful being is always present, always accessible. It’s just one small step back from the content of your experience.’
