The suspect in the Charleston shooting, Dylann Storm Roof, appeared in a number of photographs with the Confederate flag – prompting calls for banning of the flag nationwide as a symbol of racism and hatred. As lawmakers and business respond to the public outcry, Stefan Molyneux looks at the reality of the situation, and breaks down what’s said – and what’s not being said.

Dame Ellen MacArthur: The surprising thing I learned sailing solo around the world – TED Talk

Published on Jun 29, 2015

What do you learn when you sail around the world on your own? When solo sailor Ellen MacArthur circled the globe – carrying everything she needed with her – she came back with new insight into the way the world works, as a place of interlocking cycles and finite resources, where the decisions we make today affect what’s left for tomorrow. She proposes a bold new way to see the world’s economic systems: not as linear, but as circular, where everything comes around.

Fair Oaks Farms is home to over 36,000 cows that produce milk for distribution all over the Midwestern United States. The Amish farm had $23,000 to spend or not spend this way. The conventional farm had none.

Bees Are Literally Worrying Themselves to Death — NYMag

The American honeybee is in peril, you might have heard, if you are the sort of person who likes a ghost story. In the last year, beekeepers lost 42 percent of their colonies, another peak in a string of mass die-offs on the scale of plagues: In the last five years, die-offs have hit 34 percent, 46 percent, 29 percent, and 36 percent. That’s more than one in every three colonies each year — whole impeccably networked societies, as big as small cities. In many areas, the figures were worse, and it was hard not to wonder how a species in crisis could possibly sustain annual regional losses as high as 60 percent without fast approaching extinction. “What are we doing on bees?” the president has been said to interject at the end of Oval Office meetings. “Are we doing enough?”
